Water Fast Day 2 - Monday

Somehow societies all around the world have managed to find themselves in a destructive lifestyle with poor nutrition. It has been ingraining itself over hundreds of years through such dearly held traditions as grandma’s hot brown sugar cinnamon apple pie blanketed with old fashion vanilla ice cream. The problem is that we had invented this poor diet through our own weakness. We have steadily dulled our sensitive taste buds with the potent sugar-salt-fat flavor combinations from the world’s recognized and accepted SAD (Standard American Diet). Our senses can be overwhelmed through most any drug of our choosing, be they sugar or cocaine.

Any refined plant based substance can be changed into potent compounds which are our modern day sugars or cocaines of the world. If you eat plant based foods in their more natural state (whole or unprocessed), they are mostly harmless and healthy for us Modern societies are submersed in refined plant food products that affect our senses and thus our minds as well. We also live in a world overwhelmed with information. Can we get the vital and beneficial info that we really need? Dr. Joel Fuhrman is one of those few people out there devoted towards healthy living and sharing what he has found. He has followed research papers for years and drawn important conclusions from them to help us.

By leaving many pages of footnotes with his writings, he maintains his integrity with an unbiased, professional and carefully laid-out view. He is also a medical doctor helping thousands to greatly improve their health by reversing their conditions and their diseases. He is a champion for our cause to be healthy. His cure rate is 83% or higher. Cure should be stated as off of medicines and so the body is really cured! One last thing to say today is that this lifestyle that I believe in has a name, nutritarian. This is a person who follows the “Eat to Live” diet and lifestyle. After my fast, I hope to truly be a nutritarian so that I can gain my ideal health and stay within it.

A nutritarian is someone with a thorough knowledge about most our foods’ nutritional values and tries to eat the foods that give the highest nutritional value per calorie. This is represented in Dr. Joel Fuhrman’s health equation: “ Health = Nutrients / Calories or H = N/C “. The idea is to live life to its fullest, so eating is to be thoroughly enjoyed and prepared with delicious combinations from the spices of life. This isn’t a subject to talk about on my second day of fasting, since I will remain a little hungry during the first three days of water fasting. After this three day mark, my hunger will be taken care of with the body’s own supplier of energy & food through the Ketosis process. This supply of necessary energy varies from say 24 days for some up to 40 days for others. Most people could safely fast for 30 days, but a doctor’s monitoring of the diet is best to help keep you out of real starvation (when Ketosis is finished). To end on a high note, I now will reflect upon coming out of this fast with shining colors and a new healthier body & mind. How you come out of a water fast is critical to be able to keep your new found health! I will discuss this another day.

I plan on running like the wind about a week after the fast is over. I want to do some moderate weight training and do what I can to improve my farm and home, and be there for my beloved family. It will be nice to be young and strong again. However, my older body needs some pampering to keep it healthy. You can’t take it for granted anymore when you are a senior citizen. I should stay within the Nutritarian lifestyle and its delicious diet. I need to stay close to 100% within it. Once at your ideal weight, you can be within the Eat to Live diet at only 90% and maintain your health. This allows you to go to parties and eat out with family and friends, but be wary of the harmful effects of venturing back, even as little as 10%, into the SAD (Standard American Diet). Better enjoy your Garden of Eden and get the most out of living while living is possible. That is my goal.
